Mud Time is an independent touring theater based in Barre, VT. We create plays of particular interest to year-round Vermonters, and perform in a rough, popular style, with highly developed skills and a taste for reality. We're available to play in theaters, cafes, town halls, prisons, churches, and storefronts. Our technical needs are minimal and our fees negotiable. Our plays are always funny, no matter how serious. We can get to you.

OUR REPERTOIRE

The Nine Questions Like our long-running Mildred Taken Crazy, it’s a two-person 40-minute play based on the Vermont past. This time it’s a legend of Rockingham from before the Revolution: the wife of a settler disappears in the primeval wilderness and turns up six months later, naked and bewildered, without her baby. The Nine Questions is about what happens between the lost wife and her farmer husband after she comes home.

This play is performed in the round, the better to invite the audience into the personal troubles of this particular marriage.
Mildred Taken Crazy is an original two-person play about a Vermont crime of 1897: the killing of one young lady by another over a man they were both engaged to. The case was a sensation throughout the eastern US, then disappeared from the public record for many decades.
The play's first performance was in Krakow, Poland at a storytelling festival in 2007. Since then Mildred has toured up and down the eastern US and throughout Vermont, to venues large and small.

Co-founders of Mud Time Theater Steve Friedman and Denny Partridge are veterans of the San Francisco Mime Troupe and NYC's Modern Times Theater. We've toured all over the US, as well as in Europe, Asia, and Central America, and have shared numerous professional honors, including two Fulbright Fellowships, an Audelco (Black Off-B'way) Award, an OBIE, and an NEA Playwriting Fellowship. We are both members of Actors Equity, and since 1970 we've worked together on some sixty different shows - homemade, classical, large-cast, minimalist - you name it. More to come.
